World Rally Cars will feature hybrid technology systems from the 2022 World Rally Championship season onwards. The FIA World Motor Sport Council approved the introduction of the new WRC-cars at a meeting in Paris today.
The hybrid systems will be “comprised of common components and software for the first three years.” A homologation cycle of 5 years (2022-2026) has been confirmed by the Council. Its aim is to run the cars (fully) electric in cities and give the cars an electric power boost on special stages.
The Council also announced that the publication of the 2020 WRC Calendar has been deferred till the end of this month.
